Nature’s Prednisone

Prednisone is a corticosteroid drug prescribed by doctors as a part of the treatment plan for various diseases.

Corticosteroids, or steroids, are used in immune-related health problems like lupus, arthritis, allergies, asthma and inflammation. These drugs slow down the immune activity and decrease inflammation.

Prednisone’s anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties can also be derived from plant compounds. There are various immunosuppressant herbs and spices, and some of them are commonly found in the kitchen.

Immunomodulating Drugs

Inflammation and allergies are the body’s natural response to injury, stress or foreign substances. It fights the threat and communicates that something is wrong with the body.

Normally, the body releases the hormone cortisol to modulate these responses. It holds back immune activity to prevent further damage and reduce inflammation.

Prednisone is a drug that acts like cortisol to better manage the immune system. It is usually prescribed for individuals who do not produce enough cortisol due to health conditions like Addison’s Disease.

Prednisone white medical pills and tablets spilling out of a drug bottle. Macro top down view with copy space.A corticosteroid taken in a short course (5 to 7 days) can be stopped abruptly. However, if it is taken for a longer period and in high doses, natural cortisol production decreases and the person may experience withdrawal syndrome.

That is why using a steroid involves a weaning plan by gradually decreasing the dosage for a couple more weeks before stopping. It will give the body time to re-establish the cortisol level and metabolism.

Ever notice how you can’t talk about those pills without hearing words like “withdrawal,” “side effects,” or other stuff that makes you second-guess how you’re dealing with your condition?

The only way to really make sure you’re treating yourself right is by sticking to what nature gives you. And this is where the wisdom of herbalists truly comes into play—helping you harness nature’s remedies to take care of yourself the right way.

There’s only one guide I would follow when it comes to natural remedies. And you can find it here.

Natural Prednisone

Corticosteroids are prescription medicine, which means you cannot buy them over the counter. The natural and easy route of getting them is through the therapeutic benefit of plants.

Immunomodulator herbs contain bioactive components that affect the immune system.

Stop your joint pain for good copyTurmeric (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is a widely available herbal prednisone that can be used for various diseases, even idiopathic ones or diseases of unknown causes. A tincture of turmeric powder and black pepper is an effective and highly absorbable elixir for healing health disorders. Curcumin, the polyphenol in turmeric, is a potent immunomodulatory agent and the closest natural agent to prednisone.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng)

Ginseng is a valuable immunomodulator herb used for centuries to treat a wide range of illnesses. Ginseng roots, stems and leaves contain potent plant compounds that maintain immune homeostasis. The immune system reacts differently to ginseng extract treatment for better immune regulation.

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea)

Echinacea tea, extract and supplements are popular for seasonal illnesses like the flu and the common cold. It is highly effective in providing immune support and protection to speed up healing. Echinacea is very potent and should not be used with other medications including prednisone. However, if you have an autoimmune issue, it’s best to avoid it.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Ashwagandha, or Indian ginseng, is a whole-body adaptogenic herb that keeps the body balanced. Ashwagandha contains steroidal lactones and withalonides that decrease stress severity and alter immune activities. It is presently the subject of many biotechnological studies for various therapeutic uses.

The only part I don’t like about Ashwagandha is its taste. That white powder is powerful, yes, but oh… it’s unbearable sometimes.

Thankfully I found this professional apothecary that provides 100% organic and non-GMO Ashwaganda Tincture against Anxiety and Stress. It’s even combined with more remedies like Lemon Balm, Reishi and Lion’s mane… this actually makes it so potent that you can feel its effect in minutes.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

The plant compounds in licorice exert a corticosteroid-like action that suppresses inflammation. It may also improve the immune response in case of viral and bacterial infections.

Garlic (Allium sativum)

Garlic produces organosulfur compounds like alliin and diallyl sulfide which possess excellent therapeutic properties. Garlic modulates cytokine secretion, immunoglobulin production, and allergic reactions to maintain immune homeostasis.

I’ll be incorporating a lot of garlic into my routine over the next few months. It’s one of nature’s most powerful antivirals—especially when paired with honey.

I simply mince some garlic, cover it with honey, and let it sit. Then, I take a small amount each evening throughout the winter. Here’s how it benefits your body.

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus)

Researchers are currently studying the potential benefits of astragalus in strengthening the immune system, increasing stamina and chemotherapy recovery. Initial trials reported its effectiveness in enhancing cellular and humoral immune functions to prevent tumor growth. It is also believed to reduce cell damage and immune function damage during radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum)

Often used as a food supplement and an ingredient in coffee and beverages, reishi also displays excellent immunomodulatory effects. Reishi can activate the innate and adaptive response of the immune system for robust protection and enhanced defense.

Reishi is truly a natural treasure. Scientists have uncovered substantial evidence that this remarkable mushroom can extend life and promote vitality, earning it the title “the mushroom of immortality.” It’s unfortunate that Reishi isn’t widely available for people to use in creating their own remedies at home.

Nicole Apelian makes this remedy herself and because it’s so strong and people need it… it might be in stock out. But here’s the only herbal shop where I buy remedies from. I’d choose no other. See why.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica)

Gotu kola, also known as Indian pennywort, is a traditional herb used for treating debility. It acts as a natural prednisone to manage fatigue and improve vitality and recovery. It can modulate the immune system and improve overall endocrine health with its adaptogen activity.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger possesses excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which act like a natural corticosteroid. New research has found that garlic supplements perform well in managing inflammation in people with autoimmune diseases.

Ginger is amazing for digestive issues—it’s incredibly effective at stimulating digestion, and you can really feel its potency. The downside, though (at least for my daughter), is the taste. Its spiciness is just too much for her to handle, which is such a shame.

Thankfully, I address my family’s gut health with a powerful blend designed to regenerate and repair. It helps minimize the damage caused by fast food, pesticides, chemicals, and even parasites.

It’s called Balanced Gut Tincture and is the most popular, the most sold tincture from Nicole’s Apothecary. Here’s what my Auntie Janet said about it: bgt review 2

You may take this tea hot or cold, depending on your preference. If you want a cold beverage, allow the tea to cool first before adding ice cubes to prevent it from cracking your glass.

Herbal prednisone is a good alternative to pharmacological corticosteroids without adverse effects. However, if you are already taking prednisone, do not quit and substitute it with any herbal alternative without consulting your physician.

Also, take into account if you have any other underlying conditions and are taking other drugs. Consult your physician first before starting any alternative treatments.

While i appreciate the effort and wealth of information that went into this article, there is a huge hole in it. The constituents in tumeric are not water soluble. The need some kind of oil or fat to absorb through the intestines. Yes, both black pepper and ginger do make it more biologically available once it passes into your blood stream, but without fat, it won’t be absorbed into the blood stream and will have a very limited effect. If all you are using is teas, it won’t help much.

I was disappointed that a recipe for herbal prednisone was not included. I would really love to make this for myself. I have all the ingredients but not sure of the proportions. Can you share the recipe?
