7 Spices That Melt Body Fat

Herbs and spices can be powerful allies in the quest to boost your metabolism and lose weight. Simple spices that may already be staples in your pantry have metabolic-enhancing properties that can help you fight stubborn fat, lower your blood sugar, and increase your energy.

Naturally, following a whole-food diet and getting regular exercise is the first step in managing your weight, however many people underestimate the power of herbs to assist you on the weight loss journey. In this post, I will share 7 of my favorite spices for weight loss that you can easily incorporate into your diet. Additionally, I’ll share a simple tincture recipe that can help you melt body fat fast.

7 Spices That Melt Body Fat

Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), the bright yellow spice in the ginger family and known for its anti-inflammatory properties, is popular in many Indian dishes and health foods. And for good reason. Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which offers a variety of health benefits from fighting cancer to reducing symptoms of arthritis. But few people know that curcumin is also great for weight loss. It reduces the formation of fat tissue by suppressing blood vessels supplying it with oxygen. This can help slow down weight gain and even contribute to fat loss over time. Add turmeric to savory meals or enjoy it as a tea. Add a pinch of black pepper to enhance its potency.

Black Pepper
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- black pepper

Packed with a bioactive compound called piperine, black pepper has been shown to enhance metabolism by increasing the production of heat in the body, a process known as thermogenesis. This boost in metabolic activity can contribute to more effective calorie burning and, subsequently, weight loss.

Moreover, piperine may inhibit the formation of new fat cells, further aiding in weight management. Additionally, black pepper’s ability to improve digestion can support overall gut health, optimizing nutrient absorption and promoting a sense of fullness.

Cinnamon
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is a sweet and spicy addition to desserts and hot beverages, but it is actually so much more than that. Cinnamon has a lot of health benefits, and this spice shines when it comes to weight loss. It contains a compound called cinnamaldehyde that influences the metabolism by improving your body’s insulin sensitivity and lowering blood sugar levels. Thus cinnamon helps manage food cravings and reduce fat storage. Cinnamon is easy to incorporate into your daily diet – sprinkle it over a few slices of fruit or add it to your morning coffee or tea for a delicious fat-melting boost.

Cayenne Pepper
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- cayenne

Cayenne pepper (Capsicum annuum) is a common spice that adds heat to savory dishes. The same compound responsible for that flavor, capsaicin, is also responsible for cayenne’s impressive fat-burning properties. Capsaicin has thermodynamic properties, promoting heat production, which literally makes your body burn more calories. Adding just a little bit of cayenne pepper to your dishes can offset some of the calories you are consuming while making you feel fuller sooner. If you are sensitive to spicy flavors, start slow and gradually increase the amount of spice in your dishes.

Ginger
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a root renowned for its health benefits. It has been used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of conditions related to digestion, heart disease, inflammation, and infections. Ginger contains a compound called gingerol, which makes it effective for weight management as well. Incorporating ginger into your diet can increase your metabolic rate and suppress your appetite, helping you achieve fat loss with more ease. You can add minced ginger into soups and stir-fries, or consider steeping peeled ginger root in hot water for a cup of ginger tea.

Fenugreek
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- fenugreek

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is a lesser-known herb that has incredible weight loss potential. Fenugreek seeds can often be found at health food stores. They have a sweet flavor similar to maple syrup and can be used in smoothies, baked goods, and herbal remedies. Fenugreek slows down sugar absorption and improves glucose metabolism, making it a great tool for anyone with diabetes. Fenugreek also contains galactomannan which is a type of fiber that helps control appetite and promotes a sense of fullness. This herb is also often used to increase testosterone and estrogen production, so if your weight gain is related to a hormone imbalance, fenugreek can be a great way to help you lose fat and manage your weight.

Ginseng
7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- ginseng

Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a root similar to ginger that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years to treat weakness and fatigue. Ginseng tends to increase energy levels by boosting the metabolism as well as having stimulative psychological effects on the brain. In addition to that, ginseng has been found to suppress the appetite, directly leading to weight loss. Moreover, ginseng contains ginsenosides, which can limit your ability to absorb fat from the foods you have consumed, meaning your body is taking in fewer calories than you’re actually putting into it. Lastly, ginseng has a powerful effect on your gut microbiome, altering it in a way that contributes to weight loss.

Incorporating ginseng into your diet can be tricky – you can purchase ginseng supplements or tinctures to make it easy. You can also consume it as a tea or add it to your savory dishes. similarly to ginger.

All these spices are known to help with weight loss, but another important factor is a good sleep cycle. So, make sure to rest properly. Otherwise, all your weight loss efforts could be in vain.

I grow these plants at home and use them to make my own herbal sleeping pills.

DIY Metabolism-Boosting Tincture

Due to the fenugreek in this tincture, it is not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You will need:
  • 1 cup organic apple cider vinegar (ideally with the “mother”)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds, crushed
  • a small glass jar with an air-tight lid
  • a cheesecloth
  • a container to store it after it’s finished (I recommend using small dropper bottles)
Instructions:
  1. Place the cinnamon sticks, cayenne pepper, and fenugreek seeds into your glass jar. I suggest crushing the fenugreek seeds to get the most fat-burning qualities out of them.
  2. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the spices and make sure they are completely submerged. You may need more or less vinegar depending on the size of your container. Mix thoroughly to make sure all herbs are incorporated into the vinegar.
  3. 7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- mix all ingredientsTightly seal the jar and store it in a cool, dry place for 3-4 weeks. Shake it periodically to help the ingredients infuse.7 Spices That Melt Body Fat- finished remedy
  4. After 3-4 weeks, carefully strain the mixture into dropper bottles or containers of your choice. I highly recommend using a cheesecloth and funnel for this step.
  5. Don’t forget to label the bottles with the date and ingredients.

How to Use

You can take 1-2 teaspoons of this tincture daily, preferably on an empty stomach. If it seems too harsh on your stomach, you can take it before lunch or before dinner rather than first thing in the morning. If the flavor seems too strong, you can dilute it in a glass of water or a cup of tea.

The tincture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 6 months, or in a cool dark cupboard for about 3 months. I always keep my tinctures in the fridge just to be safe.

I didn’t actually get the physical book either. I do have it digital.

Ginger, turmeric and ginseng are not incorporated into the tincture?

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for your comment!
The author of the article chose to make a simple yet effective tincture using cinnamon, cayenne pepper and fenugreek. Combining all 7 spices together in a tincture would have made a very strong remedy that could potentially be too hard on the system. However, in food amounts, these 7 spices are safe to combine.

Many blessings and good health!

You are missing ginger, turmeric, ginseng, and pepper. Do you think you could put the whole recipe on here, or delete it if you’re not going to.
