Homemade Kidney Cleanse Juice

The kidneys perform very important jobs: they filter toxins, help regulate blood pressure, and balance mineral levels. For these reasons, it’s essential we look after these two small but essential organs. The purpose of a kidney cleansing juice is to improve kidney health and general health overall.

Our diet is the most important factor in maintaining and improving kidney health. Everything that we eat and drink can impact them, some negatively and others positively. Drinking adequate levels of water is crucial for both the day-to-day functioning of our kidneys as well as long-term benefits by helping to prevent problems from developing with the kidneys, like kidney stones.

There are also many wonderful natural herbs and foods that can help cleanse the kidneys and using them in a juice allows you to take a few at once. Many people also find it easier to consume larger amounts of fruit this way. In this juice, you’ll find parsley, dandelion extract, ginger, red apple, red grapes, and lemon.

How These Ingredients Promote Kidney Health

  • Parsley is a diuretic that helps flush out bacteria and germs from the kidneys. It is also thought to help kidneys by lowering high blood pressure which is a risk factor for kidney disease. The nitrates in it help improve blood flow and dilate the blood vessels. Because it is high in oxalates it can also reduce the risk of kidney stones (except for people with hyperoxaluria who experts recommend limit the level of dietary oxalates they consume).
  • Dandelion extract has long been used in Native American medicine to treat kidney disease. Dandelions are rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins and can protect the kidneys and also function as a natural diuretic. It’s the antioxidants that act as a powerful detoxifier for organs like the kidneys. The diuretic properties may also reduce the risk of forming kidney infections. Dandelion is known to improve digestion and minimize the amount of waste reaching the kidneys too.
  • With its anti-inflammatory properties, ginger makes a wonderful kidney cleanser. Ginger is also a rich source of many vitamins and minerals. Certain extracts in ginger have been found to improve kidney functions, contributing to overall health and wellbeing.
  • Red apples are beneficial for the kidneys because they contain pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber that helps to boost antioxidants in the kidneys. Apple pectin is also known to be a prebiotic and it stimulates healthy bacteria. The peel and the core of apples contain the highest amount of pectin so add as much of these to the juice as you can.
  • Grapes are actually a form of berry. Grape seeds are high in flavanoids so throw the whole fruits into your juice. Grapes are also diuretic so are good for cleaning out the kidneys. Due to their abundance of minerals, they also help detoxify. As well as cleansing and maintaining kidney health, certain compounds in grape skin and seeds can help reverse kidney damage that has been caused by a high-fat diet. They can also help prevent kidney disease in high-risk patients due to obesity.
  • Lemon juice is a natural cleanser and helps detox many parts of the body. It filters blood as well as flushing out waste and toxins, helping the kidneys perform their natural job. Lemons can also help ward off kidney stones. They contain citrate which helps to stop calcium from building up and forming the stones. Vitamin C in lemons is also a powerful antioxidant that can protect the kidneys from free radicals and inflammation.

Other Fruits You Could Substitute In This Juice

If you want to substitute the apple or grapes for whatever reason, there are plenty of great options that help to cleanse the kidneys and support their function. Since grapes are a type of berry, it’s no surprise that other berries will also go a long way in helping your kidneys.

Homemade Kidney Cleanse Juice - Berries

Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cherries can all cleanse the kidneys and protect them. Berries are packed full of phytonutrients that can stop damage to kidney cells. Cranberries are also beneficial because they support the urinary tract by removing excess calcium oxalate.

Watermelon is another good option. It’s a mild diuretic and helps to hydrate and cleanse the kidneys. It also contains lycopene which helps in the healthy functioning of the kidneys.

Enjoy the juice straight away for maximum freshness and benefit. I didn’t strain this juice but if you’re using a blender you could do this after blending by pushing it through a fine-mesh strainer or layers of cheesecloth. The skin of the apple and grapes holds many great properties, so be sure to save the pulp and use this too (could be on natural yogurt as a healthy dessert option or breakfast).

Thank you for this information as I was told by Doctor that my kidneys were going into failure. Doc told me to try this juice as it may help, and it has!

Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for your comment.
We are glad to hear that this juice worked for you.

Wish you the best of health!

How often should this drink be taken?

Hi Loretta,

At the beginning of your cleanse, drink it once a day for three days in a row. Then you can reduce this to once a week so you regularly clean out your kidneys and benefit from all of the nutrients contained. It’s a good drink for maintaining healthy kidneys as well as cleansing. However, this drink is also safe to take every day if you wish to do so or if feel you need a deeper cleanse.

Many blessings!

How do I make dandelion extract?

I haven’t known where to get dandelion extract. I have been taking Milk Thistle, Dandelion, Yellow Dock in pill form from PipingRock.com for years. Maybe this will help you.

I’m not trying to sound like a smart behind but google it.

Probably tastes nice…too much sugar for me

Hi Elise,

I’m sorry to hear this.

Foods with natural sugar usually have an important role in the diet of cancer patients and anyone trying to prevent cancer because they provide essential nutrients that keep the body healthy and help prevent disease.

But yes, like any sugar, too much fruit sugar isn’t good.

Wish you the best of health!

Grapes and an apple are the only fruit sugars here: berries are ok for diabetics…..the ginger, lemon, parsley and the dandelion will counteract the sweetness. Not sure what you are worried about with “too sweet for me”.

Can u use dandelion leaves instead of extract? How often do u recommend this cleanse?

Hi Kathy,

Yes, you can use fresh dandelion leaves instead of extract. Steep 5 leaves in boiling water for 10 minutes and let it cool. Once the water has cooled, you can discard the leaves and add the dandelion leaf water to your blender with the other ingredients.

I hope that helps. 🙂

Try using a Tea Press for Straining Juices, Tinctures, and Infusions 😉 easier 👍⚓

Hi Maryann,

Thank you for your suggestion.
Really appreciate it!

this makes such a difference! after making it i did feel much lighter and wasn’t as puffy as i usually am around the eyes, and my skin was super glowy as well!

Hi Gabbie,

Thank you for your comment.
I am glad to hear this works for you!

Many blessings!

When I look for dandelion extract I find either dandelion leaf extract or dandelion root extract. Which is the extract you are referring to?

Loving your site, thank you! Can’t wait for my book. Question: How much does this recipe make? I assume enough for 3 days, and that you keep it in the fridge, correct? I wake up 4-5 times a night feeling like I need to pee but it’s usually very little and very s…l..o…w….. I thought UTI, but it seems to be a night issue when I’m laying down, not during the day. Also I have lower back pain ( both sides of lower back) first thing in the morning. Again only morning. So I’m assuming kidneys, right? I also have constipation issues, so maybe that’s a factor as well. (Thought I’d make the cabbage recipe for saurecrout today.. to help with that) Thanks again!!!!

I’ve been making and drinking this FOR a few weeks, and notice no difference. I was hoping for the results that the person who said they were less puffy around the eyes. I’ve been told that under eye bags are caused from kidney problems. Anyone else know of this? Also the picture looks like purple grapes, (I’ve been using the red ones as per the recipe) and I can’t find any fresh DANDELION LEAVES or extract) I did order DANDELION root extract from mountain rose herbs, so I use that. Also, I use only 1/2 a lemon and 1/2 the apple. And I add a handful of frozen cranberries., and a few celery leaves. Should I just stick to the original recipe? Thanks for your input….

Would you be able to freeze this if you didn’t have time to make it everyday?

with juices/smoothies I usually portion it out in jars or clean empty sauce bottles (glass bbq bottles work best) and put in the fridge for each day of the week….make a weekly supply

I have been using cranberry juice for this. When cranberries are in season I purchase roughly 20lbs & freeze them for future use. The recipe for cranberry sauce is followed, with the exception of adding three times the amount of filtered water. this makes a very nice juice. Having frozen berries in the freezer means I can have fresh made juice year round.

I feel that I’m doubling the ginger. First, I brew ginger tea ☕️ then I take the tea bags, and after removing the ginger, I then use the ginger from the tea bags, and add it to my blender. Is that legal?

Where can you get a “safe” dandelion extract and should it be root or leaf extract? There are so many scam products, if anyone knows of a reputable dealer, I would appreciate it

you can get dandelion extract from the natural store locally or order from online

nice! I’m always looking for more healthy ways to eat or juice and this will help with current issues going on….also, I use watermelon as a base for my juices/smoothies
