You’re Using Garlic Wrong

Garlic is one of nature’s most readily available remedies. This bulb is celebrated for its immune-boosting properties, but people don’t know how to make the most of it. How you prepare or consume garlic can make or break it. Trust me, if you’re only using it to flavor your favorite dishes, you’re using garlic wrong, missing out on a world of benefits!

When used correctly, garlic can be a game-changer for your health. In this post, we’ll learn several perks of this common ingredient and teach you the right way to maximize its health benefits. Plus, you’ll learn how to make a delicious sleep syrup that tastes great, supports immune health, and promotes deep sleep. Grab your favorite garlic press, and let’s get DIYing!

The Many Benefits of Garlic

Garlic is more than just a simple garden bulb; it’s a powerhouse that can take your health to new levels. Here are just a few things this humble bulb brings to the table.

Boosts Immunity: Garlic contains a compound called allicin, which strengthens the immune system. It’s a tried and true antimicrobial method to help you quickly overcome colds, viruses, and other ailments. There’s a reason why all of Grandma’s best remedies included garlic!

Most people wait until they’re already coughing or feverish to “remember” garlic. But there’s a better way. I found a guide that shows exactly how to use garlic before the bug hits—whether you chew it raw, take it in shots, or pair it with other daily immune habits.

From what time of day to take it, to what to combine it with… this is the kind of info Grandma would’ve scribbled in the margins of her recipe book. You can read it here.

Strengthens Your Heart: Garlic contains anti-inflammatory compounds that lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and boost circulation. All of these things combine to reduce your risk of heart disease. Pair garlic with healthy salads or veggie-rich sauces for an extra cardiovascular boost.

Improves Gut Health: Those who consume garlic get a dose of natural probiotics, which help balance your gut. As most health aficionados know, gut health affects your entire body. Garlic also adds antimicrobial properties to your diet, which combats gross bacteria that lead to poor gut health.

But here’s what most people don’t realize: garlic is just one of the tools your gut needs. When your digestive lining has already taken a beating from antibiotics, chemicals, stress, or processed foods… probiotics alone aren’t enough.

You need something that actually repairs—something that soothes, seals, and restores the gut from the inside out.

That’s why I started using a potent herbal tincture made with gut-regenerating plants like marshmallow root and slippery elm. It’s the one thing I turn to when garlic isn’t cutting it anymore. Click here to see how it works.

Promotes Detox: Liver health is rarely discussed, but it should be a prominent focus in your health journey. Detoxing the liver boosts its ability to break down toxins and flush them out of the body. Garlic contains sulfur compounds that boost liver health and protect the body from environmental stressors.

Relieves Pain: Garlic’s anti-inflammatory properties reduce inflammation in the body, which can relieve aches and pains. This is excellent news for those with inflamed joints or chronic diseases.

Helps You Sleep: Garlic has specific properties, such as zinc, that promote deeper, more restful sleep. When combined with other calming herbs, such as lavender and chamomile, garlic is a foolproof remedy for easing your mind.

How to Use Garlic the Right Way

Most people use garlic incorrectly because few know how to maximize its benefits. The most potent compound in garlic is allicin (which is also in onions!), but allicin needs time to form. Let your garlic sit for 10-15 minutes before using it in recipes and remedies. Overheating garlic can destroy its potency, so if you’re using it in sauces or hot dishes, stir it in at the very end and cook until just fragrant.

When garlic is used in a recipe, its compounds are best absorbed by the body when fat is added. Pairing the garlic with a little olive oil when sautéing it or mixing it with coconut oil for remedies can help your body process its benefits faster.

Like most foods, garlic is most powerful when consumed raw. Add a little to your favorite salad dressings and dips, mix with a bit of honey for a sweet remedy, or chew it raw (if you can stand it!). To get the most out of your garlic, add it to your favorite syrup, tea, or tonic. You can also add it to salves or ferment it in raw honey as a sweet immune booster.

Most people just eat garlic… but do you actually know how to prepare it as a medicine?

I didn’t either—until I found the one course that finally showed me how to do it right. Not just with garlic, but with dozens of other plants too. Like turning herbs into an anti-inflammatory tincture, a real natural painkiller, or even a powerful herbal antibiotic… just like my grandmother would have.

How to Make Garlic and Chamomile Sleep Syrup

Everyone struggles with sleeplessness from time to time, but most turn to over-the-counter medications. These medications can leave you dependent on toxic chemicals that negatively affect your sleep cycle and hormones. This is especially dangerous for children who are still learning positive sleep habits!

This Garlic and Chamomile Sleep Syrup is a natural sleep aid that won’t leave you feeling groggy the next morning. Garlic boosts circulation, which can relieve stress. Chamomile is a classic herb that sets you up for deep sleep by reducing anxiety. Last but not least, raw honey boosts melatonin production, which makes it easier to fall asleep, especially if you have a cold. These ingredients combine to create a delicious, soothing syrup that will help children and adults feel well-rested.

Caution! Pesticides found in chamomile fields have been compromising the quality and benefits of this wonderful herbal remedy. Due to the toxicity of these chemicals, buying chamomile from most retailers might not be worth the risk.

That’s why I decided to grow my own herbs at home! The taste and fragrance are far superior, and knowing it’s 100% natural gives me peace of mind. It will take you a couple of weeks but it’s worth it. Here’s where you can get the seeds!

Ingredients01 garlic ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and lightly crushed
  • 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers or 1 chamomile tea bag
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Step One: Add the water to a small pot and bring it to a boil. Add the crushed garlic and chamomile and turn the heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes until the liquid changes color.02 boil chamomile

Step Two: Strain the garlic and herbs. Let the mixture cool. Transfer the mixture to a glass measuring cup.03 boil garlic

Step Three: Stir in the raw honey and cinnamon while the mixture is at room temperature. Transfer to a glass jar and use as directed. Store in the refrigerator. 03 mix ingredients

How to Use This Remedy

This simple remedy is easy to incorporate into your nighttime routine. Take 1-2 teaspoons 30 minutes before bed for a great night’s sleep. If you wake up in the middle of the night, you can take a teaspoon then, too. Because these ingredients are so gentle, they have no major cautions. You can take this remedy daily or every few days to balance your sleep schedule.04 ready remedy garlic

This sleep syrup doubles as a cough syrup or immune-booster. If you have a sore throat, “bug,” or cough, take 1 teaspoon every 4-6 hours to relieve symptoms. Because this remedy has honey, it’s not recommended for kids under 1. If giving to children, halve the remedy, as their systems don’t need as much support. If you’re on a blood thinner, you should consult your primary care provider before consuming, as garlic can be a natural blood thinner.

Let’s be honest—boiling herbs, straining syrup, and braving the taste of garlic every night isn’t for everyone.

Sometimes you’re too tired to even make tea… and other times, you just need something that works fast.

That’s why I always keep a little bottle of this herbal sleep tincture on hand. It’s made with the most powerful plants for rest—Valerian, Hops, Chamomile, and Skullcap—all extracted and blended for maximum potency. Just a few drops under the tongue and it’s lights out… no prep, no mess, no bitter garlic aftertaste.

This is the blend I now rely on when sleep just won’t come. I’ll leave a link for you here.

How Not to Poison Yourself with Garlic

Most people have no idea that garlic can become toxic when combined with certain ingredients. Others unknowingly cancel out its healing properties just by mixing it wrong in a recipe.

I learned this the hard way—until I found a guide that not only told me what to avoid, but also how to actually use garlic to kill parasite worms, treat infections, make wound-healing syrups, and create remedies for everything from inflammation to insomnia.

It’s not a cookbook. It’s a collection of forgotten remedies—taught the way your grandmother would’ve done it. By doing.
