The Benefits of Quitting Sugar
Sugar is among the most harmful ingredients, yet millions find themselves craving it! Sugar is a primary contributor to obesity, but it can also trigger multiple forms of diabetes and even increase your risk of cancer and heart disease. Those who consume excessive amounts of sugar experience inflammation, acne, aches, and pains..and they often don’t even know sugar is the culprit! Sure, sugary treats are great, but at what cost?
In contrast, those who quit sugar report weight loss, more energy, clearer skin, more stable moods, and better oral health. Not to mention the satisfaction you’ll feel by making a healthy change.
How do you quit sugar? Most take it day by day. Quitting sugar is a choice that must be made every time a doughnut comes your way. Successful “quitters” also have a secure plan that makes it easy to say no to destructive foods. They keep their “why” front and center, remembering their core motivation for getting healthy.
“Quitters” pack their favorite sugar-free candy, cookies, and brownies to have on hand when others are enjoying their treats. They also have a sugar-free sweetener that tastes just as good as sugar.
If you’re trying to cut out all forms of sugar, natural or not, you can use stevia. Stevia is a plant-based sweetener with a low glycemic index. In other words, it won’t undo all the positive progress you’ve made on your sugar-free journey! Stevia comes in many forms, including liquid and powder. Play around to see which stevia is your favorite.
Do you think sugar is the solution to boost your energy levels? Think again… It can do more harm than good. Instead, you should aim to eliminate cravings altogether. You can do that by giving your body what it needs.
Take a look at the ingredients in the Lion’s Mane Mushroom Tincture, and see how it can help improve cognitive function, boost energy, and reduce stress symptoms. These are the main reasons you might feel sugar cravings, so why not give it a try?
Natural Remedies to Eliminate Sugar Cravings
When you first quit sugar, you’ll undoubtedly experience the dreaded sugar withdrawal. One of the worst symptoms can be sugar cravings. There will be days you feel like you’ll die if you don’t have a treat! Nature has excellent remedies to help you kick the sugar habit for good. Here are some natural spices and herbs that can help you eliminate cravings.
Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a great blood sugar regulator, helping to stabilize moods and reduce cravings. You can use ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks and get the same benefit. Sprinkle a little on your oatmeal or steep a cinnamon stick in your tea, as we did in our Crave No More Latte. You can even use cinnamon in savory settings, such as to top chicken or in salad dressings.
Ginger: Fresh ginger naturally curbs the appetite and has a warming effect that can aid digestion. When you stop sugar, you can feel nauseous, and ginger does a great job remedying that! Enjoy a piece of sugar-free candied ginger, ginger tea, or fresh ginger steeped in water. You can also add fresh grated ginger to your salad dressings or stir-fries!
Dandelion: Dandelions beautify any yard and are so much more than a bothersome weed. Dandelion root is a natural detoxifier that doubles as a diuretic, helping you feel slimmer. It can also reduce sugar cravings by improving insulin sensitivity. When your insulin is at peak operation, your blood sugar is stable, making your body crave vegetables and protein. You can always chow down on a freshly washed dandelion root from the backyard, but we prefer our dandelions in tea form.
Stevia: Stevia is a great all-natural option that many gardeners grow in their backyard. This is a fabulous option for those with tight budgets, as a little goes a long way. Storebought stevia generally comes in liquid or powder form, but gardeners dehydrate fresh stevia leaves. You can incorporate this sweetener into beverages and baked goods.

I quit sugar when I was 38 for 11 years. This meant zero sugar in any kind of food. I didn’t attempt to enjoy sugar free brownies, nor store bought tomato sauce with sugar, etc. I just ate a healthy diet without any added sugar, fructose, etc. I felt fine. I found one day by following my nose that I could smell from about 5 feet away a small sugar bowl with white sugar at a reception I attended. I only quit the sugar-free lifestyle because my late wife nagged me – good naturally – to eat some of the birthday cake she had made for our hostess when I moved to Maine for boatbuilding studies. I finally gave in. That was the end of my sugar free life. I must state that during this period, as all my life, I was very active physically, and very optimistic, working hard and confident of the outcomes of my studies and work. Based on my current use of sweets and processed food as a distraction from sadness, loss, and defeat, this made a huge difference in the ease with which I dropped sugar. I’m certain a supportive mate at the time, who also never ate sugar, made it easy. If I go sugar free again, I will do it the same way. I will also supplement my effort with Nicole’s lion’s mane tincture to give myself the best chance of success, harder to come by these days.
What is an “excessive” amount of sugar. Don’t drink coffee at home and only VERY occasionally go to a coffee shop in the area. Drink tea with some lemon in it and approx. a tsp of sugar. I really can’t see THAT being too much and lemon juice has MANY good health benefits.
Green and Black tea has a lot aluminum in it. It usually has more good effects than bad. The lemon juice pulls even more of aluminum out of the tea. Lemon is very good for you but not in tea.
It can be done. It takes a strong will and a lot of discipline. I did it to the extreme max over seven months ago. I learned to love raw honey, apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper. What a drink to kill your sugar cravings. Life has never been better. At 82, I feel about like I did 30 years ago.
Everyone is against sugar, but what if one has difficulty putting on weight and has intolerances to gluten, dairy, and preservatives, and needs whatever means to gain that they can get. Also, sugar substitutes, including Stevia are in my opinion, worse than sugar. I am under a doctor’s care and sugar doesn’t seem to bother them as to my use of it. In my opinion, it is not necessarily the use of sugar that causes obesity, but rather the lack of a truly balanced diet and exercise. And certainly being your own advocate and monitoring ones health.
I was going to ask the same question. Since finding out several years ago that I have a wheat sensitivity and going totally gluten free, I dropped about 20 lb. Then covid cost me another 7 lb and caring for my husband in his final 2 years didn’t help any. Long story short, I’m about 10-15 lb underweight and have to be careful not to get sick so I don’t lose more. I have to make myself eat more than I feel like eating and sometimes that means sugar.
Eat meat protein instead of empty carbs. Cancer eats sugar carbs. Sugar fuels it. Doctors tell cancer patients to eat all the sugar that they want to keep their weight up. Sugar kills them.
