In this recipe, we use two types of widely available Magnesium; Magnesium Sulphate commonly known as Epsom salts and Magnesium Chloride sometimes referred to as Magnesium Flakes.
Both types are generally obtained from natural sources such as dry lake beds
or natural brine sources such as seawater. Each type is then prepared for use accordingly. They are soluble in water and Magnesium Chloride is said to be one of the more skin soluble forms of magnesium.
For the recipe suggested here, we also use a magnesium-rich herb, for added magnesium for aroma, and enjoyment. Sage is used in the recipe but you could select any other magnesium-rich herb; some examples of these include Chickweed, Burdock Root, Dandelion, Basil, Coriander, Mint, Nettle, and Red Clover.
Ingredients
- 150g (5.3 oz) Magnesium Chloride ( Magnesium Flakes )
- 150g (5.3 oz) Magnesium Sulphate ( Epsom Salt)
- 5g Sage (0.71oz) or any aromatic magnesium-rich herb of your choice
Equipment
- Scale
- Large Storage Jar
- Scissors
- Spoon
- Small bowls or cups
Step-by-Step Method: Herb Infused Magnesium Water
- Weigh out 150g (5.3 oz) of Epsom Salt ( Magnesium Sulphate)
- Weigh out 150g (5.3 oz) of Magnesium Flakes (Magnesium Chloride).
- Weigh out 5g (0.71oz) of dry sage or any magnesium-rich dried herbs of your choice.
- Cut and break up your herbs into smaller pieces. You may also use a spice grinder to finely powder the herbs.
- Layer each of your ingredients into a large jar.
- Close and shake the jar well to combine the ingredients.
- Your well-mixed blend is now ready to use to make magnesium water as you need it.
- Prepare a large enough bowl or bucket and a 1L kettle (33.8fl oz) of hot water and 1L (33.8fl oz) of cool water.
- Add in 3-4 tablespoons of the magnesium and herb salt blend.
- Add in all the hot water, allow everything to dissolve, and then add in cool water as needed.
- Enjoy soaking your feet in this warm magnesium water for a minimum of 20 minutes or preferably longer.
Considerations
You can use this as a full body soak which will allow you to absorb more magnesium topically. You could also use it as a foot scrub, and thereafter a foot soak. Be sure to conduct a test patch especially if you have sensitive skin. Along with this treatment, be sure to eat a balanced diet with the correct amount of magnesium in order to experience optimum benefits.
