Ultimate Detox Shots
Detox shots have become increasingly popular over the last few years – lining shelves at local grocery stores. Containing fruits, herbs, and vegetables, detox shots aid in overall health, while also cleansing the body of toxins.
Today, we’ll cover two different detox shots recipes you can make at home. These are my go-to’s and I usually alternate between them. So, let’s dive in!
Ultimate Detox Shots
Shot One
The first ingredient in this recipe is a ½ cup of chopped green apple. This powerful fruit has many benefits, including; aiding healthy skin with vitamin C, promoting digestion as a natural prebiotic, reducing risk of chronic disease, boosting your immune system, and more.
Spinach is one of the most nutrient-packed plants full of health benefits. Vitamin K, a prominent vitamin in spinach, aids in blood clotting, eye health, and bone health. This amazing plant is also known for reducing blood sugar, preventing cancer, providing anti-inflammatory properties, and reducing hypertension. With so many incredible benefits, spinach is a great option for detox shots.
Despite their sour reputation, lemons also play a key role in keeping you healthy. Lemons are full of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, and are known to remove free radicals from the body. Vitamin C also produces white blood cells – essential for fighting off illness. Other interesting benefits are fresh breath due to its bacteria-killing properties and are also able to keep your body hydrated longer.
Ginger is notorious for its nausea-relieving properties but did you know it can also treat arthritis and inflammation? It is also used for relieving period pain, sore muscles and provides a host of other health benefits. Thus, this popular root is an excellent addition to any detox shot.

To round out your detox shot, consider an herb such as turmeric. Turmeric has antioxidant, anti-inflammation, joint health, bone health, brain health antidepressant and cancer prevention properties. That’s a lot of health benefits hiding in this tasty root, another popular option for detoxing.
Our last ingredient for this first shot is celery. This is another great one for weight loss, inflammation reduction, digestive health and it also contains important antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamins A, C and K. Celery is known to support cognitive function, nerve and respiratory health, making it a no-brainer for our recipe.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup chopped green apple
- ½ cup spinach
- ½ tsp. powdered turmeric
- 1 lemon
- 2 teaspoons chopped ginger
- 6 two-inch pieces of celery stalk
Yield: approximately three shots
Steps:
-
- Rinse all needed ingredients, with the exception of the turmeric.
- Cut up: green apple into small individual pieces. Celery into smaller stalks, approximately two inches per stalk. Cut the lemon into two halves, cutting off the ends first.
- Take the ginger root and peel before chopping. For this recipe, I used a potato peeler- but a teaspoon will work just fine. You will only need two teaspoons, so be sure to set aside the rest for our next detox shot. Put it into your juicer, or blender, whichever you have chosen to use.
- Take your green apple and put it in your juicer or blender.
- Squeeze lemon halves over the blender as much as you can to release the lemon’s juice. Take care to remove any seeds should they fall into the mix.
- Add in your celery stalks, turmeric and spinach.
- Blend/juice contents until you achieve a smooth, liquid consistency.
- Pour into a shot glass of your choice and store the remainder of the detox juice in the refrigerator. Be sure to drink this within two days to ensure freshness, ideally at least once a day.
Shot Two
Our next detox shot is a tart treat. This shot’s ingredients consist of red apple, cucumber, lemon, ginger and cherries.
Cucumber is known for its numerous health benefits such as promoting hydration, containing antioxidants, aiding in weight loss and regulating blood sugar. Apart from its significant benefits, cucumber also adds a clean, fresh taste to your detox shot and is a personal favorite in my household.
This recipe calls for a red apple of any variety – I chose a McIntosh apple due to its sweet-tart flavor. Red apples are great for stabilizing blood sugar, lower cholesterol, satisfying hunger, relieving inflammation, reducing blood pressure and increasing life expectancy. The old proverb, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, seems to hold true today as we have fully realized the wonderful benefits of this delicious fruit.
Our last detox shot covered the health benefits of lemon and ginger but what about cherries? This stemmed fruit not only provides a rich red color for your detox shot, but is also thought to provide better sleep and lower inflammation. This nutrient-dense superfood not only tastes great in a detox shot, but takes care of your body in the process.
Ingredients:
- 6 cherries
- ½ cup red apple
- ¼ cup frozen cucumber slices
- 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
Yield: approximately three shots or one drink
Steps:
-
Rinse all needed ingredients.
- Cut red apple into small pieces and add to the blender, or juicer, depending on your preference.
- Either slice a quarter of a cucumber or pull out frozen cucumber slices from the freezer as I did here and add them to the blender.
- Cut the pits out of the cherries and add them into the blender as well.
- Squeeze lemon halves over the blender as much as you can to release the lemon’s juice. Take care to remove any seeds should they fall into the mix.
- Using your chopped ginger from earlier, put a teaspoon of chopped ginger into the blender.
- Blend/juice contents until you achieve a smooth, liquid consistency. Pour into a shot glass of your choice.
Store the rest of the detox juice in the refrigerator or drink the entire beverage. If you choose to set this aside, drink within two days to ensure freshness, ideally at least once a day. Enjoy!
Looks like a small typo in shot one, step 3.
“ Take the two teaspoons”. Maybe you meant tablespoons.
Reckon she meant 2 teaspoons:) not tablespoons (error)
Hi JJ,
Thank you for bringing this up! It’s 2 teaspoons.
Many blessings and good health!
Cherries are hard to find this time of year and not sure frozen will reap the same benefits. Is there something thAT COULD BE SUBSITUTED FOR CHERRIES. Perhaps huckleberries, blueberries? Should one avoid the frozen fruit? Thanks.
Hey brains trust! If I put this through a juicer, would it still be beneficial without all the fibre??
