Liver-Damaging Foods You’re Eating Right Now
Have you ever thought about all that your liver does for your body? Once you understand it’s role, you’ll see why you should stay away from these liver-damaging foods you’re (probably) eating right now.
The liver is your body’s central detoxifying organ, keeping you free of harmful toxins. It’s also an integral part of the digestion system, breaking down food and enabling your body to metabolize proteins and carbs.
It’s safe to say the liver works hard, and any hard-working organ needs fuel to do its job correctly. The foods we eat can boost the liver or cause it to be sluggish, leading to many health issues.
Thankfully, science has given us a good idea of what foods optimize our liver and a stark picture of what foods damage it. When it comes to your diet, a little effort goes a long way.
Cutting out those seemingly innocent sweets and alcoholic drinks can give you a happier and longer life. Where do you begin?
Here’s a short list of Liver-Damaging Foods You’re Eating Right Now and a remedy that can help you detoxify your liver, reversing the effects of previous bad choices. Let’s dig in!
Liver-Damaging Foods You’re Eating Right Now
Many people don’t think before eating, filling their plates full of toxic foods that can cause a sluggish liver. Here are just a few liver-damaging foods that you may be eating without realizing it.
Fast Food French Fries: Fast food joints often use the worst oils to fry their foods. Recent studies have shown that deep-fried foods are full of excess cholesterol, which can promote liver damage.
You have a recipe for disaster when you combine french fries cooked in unhealthy oils with greasy burgers and chicken patties. For a healthier option, skip the drive-through line and bake your fries with a spritz of coconut oil.
Soda: On average, Americans drink 1.9 sodas a day, most opting for regular sodas full of sugar. Soda contains high-fructose corn syrup, which is a massive contributor to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. If you can’t give up fizzy drinks, swap them for sparkling water or a prebiotic soda.
Bacon: Bacon is full of saturated fats, which can accumulate in the liver, causing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD. Bacon and other processed meats are also loaded with sodium, contributing to weight gain and heart issues.
Processed foods don’t just damage your liver, but also your gut. Once your gut has been damaged, you won’t be able to absorb all the nutrients your body needs. Once that happens, you start having headaches, bad mood, digestive issues, and other symptoms that people think are normal.
Let me tell you, no discomfort is normal. I realized it after my gut healed and my overall health improved. Everything was linked to my gut health. And I just took 40 drops per day of a powerful natural blend in form of a tincture. It’s called Balanced Gut Tincture, and here’s what others confirm:
Alcohol: Alcohol isn’t technically a food, but it’s still worth mentioning. Even 30-50 grams of alcohol a day can lead to liver disease.
The effects of alcohol on the liver are unsettling, as over time, alcohol consumption can lead to skin discoloration, internal bleeding, and even liver transplants.
Artificial sweeteners: Many view artificial sweeteners as a way to keep calories low. While this is true, fake sweeteners can also harm the liver. Aspartame (often found in diet sodas) and sucralose are just two of the top offenders.
These sweeteners can negatively affect your gut microbiome, affecting your liver’s overall function. Stick with healthy sweeteners like stevia, honey, coconut sugar, and maple syrup. Natural sweeteners make your food taste great and keep you feeling your best.
Those liver-damaging foods bring serious consequences. Reducing the toxic load is the first step you want to do to start regenerating your liver. Its job is actually to filter toxins. And oh boy, ‘toxin’ is a mild word for all the chemicals and pesticides we are forced to eat.
There are a few herbs that actually detoxify your body of heavy metals and microplastics. Here’s what you should eat to reverse liver damage.
Boost Liver Function With a Liver-Detoxing Salve
Like other organs in the body, the liver generates new cells and can be detoxed. We’ve specially formulated our Liver-Detoxing Salve with natural ingredients to loosen sludge and help your liver increase its overall efficiency.
Here’s a quick rundown of what each ingredient does.
Carrier Oil: Anytime you use essential oils, you need a carrier oil to help distribute the essential oils evenly. This can also help your body process the essential oils at an even rate, which is important when using oils medicinally.
Rosemary Essential Oil: Rosemary is good for so much more than just flavoring food. Rosemary essential oil stimulates bile, which increases antioxidants that protect the liver. This fragrant oil also helps your liver regenerate cells.
Lemon Essential Oil: Lemon is a fabulous disinfecting agent whose benefits extend to internal organs. Lemon helps stimulate the liver’s detoxification process, and studies have shown that it reduces oxidative stress. Lemon essential oil is also great for lymphatic drainage, which is great for liver function.
Juniper Essential Oil: Juniper berry essential oil is a natural liver cleanser. When added to our Liver-Detoxing Salve, you can detox your internal organs safely but effectively. Juniper berry is also known for reducing inflammation, which can take its toll on the liver.
Dandelion Root: More than just a common yard weed, dandelions can reduce excess fat in the liver, reversing years of poor choices. Dandelion root extract was a hot topic in science when studies showed that it even benefited animals with liver failure.
If you don’t have these ingredients at hand, don’t worry. I’ve got your back! There are some more herbal remedies that help regenerate your liver cells. I’m using this best-seller recipe book for my daily remedies.
It’s most likely a great addition to your health book collection, it saves you from spending your hard-earned money on fake supplements when nature actually provides everything you need. Check it out here!
How to Make a Liver-Detoxing Salve
A salve is a great, gentle way to detox the liver. Many disagree on consuming essential oils, but incorporating them into silky carrier oil is a universally friendly remedy. This salve comes together in less than an hour and makes an entire jar’s worth.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup of carrier oil (e.g., jojoba or coconut oil)
- 1 tablespoon of dried dandelion root (optional)
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil
- 5 drops of lemon essential oil
- 5 drops of juniper essential oil
Instructions:
Step One: Pour the carrier oil into a small saucepan set over low heat. If using dried dandelion root, place in a reusable tea bag and simmer for 10-20 minutes, until the carrier oil changes color.
Step Two: Remove the herbs and stir in the essential oils. Let cool to room temperature, then store in a glass jar.
How to Use Liver-Detoxing Salve
Massage the oil over the liver area (right side of your abdomen) once or twice a day. You can also apply it to other reflexology areas known for quick absorption of ingredients, such as the inner elbow.
Adults can use this remedy 1-2 times a day, preferably in the evening, to give their bodies time to absorb the ingredients. As with all remedies, start slowly and give your skin a “patch test” to ensure you’re not allergic to any ingredients.
You can also use this salve as you would a castor oil pack. Pregnant and nursing mothers should always consult with a doctor before using any new remedy. Children should not use this remedy, as their bodies naturally detox.
This remedy should be stored in a dark, cool place to keep the essential oils potent.
Targeting your liver from the outside is good, but what’s best is to actually feed it regenerating herbs so the healing process may start on the inside of your liver. Dandelion, Milk Thistle, and Schisandra Berries.
If you are not into remedy-making at home, here’s where you can source your highest-quality remedies for just a dime compared to the plants themselves.
Thanks
There is more up to date data on the pros and cons of saturated fats! Fats are essential to our well being and research shows that we are not getting enough.
The “fact” about bacon being dangerous is not true. Our body/brain needs saturated fat and there is plenty of scientific documented evidence of that. I’m not referring to trans-fat which is definitely unhealthy. Fat is still being incorrectly touted as unsafe. Do not refer to the propaganda for your information. You will need to dig deeper. On that note, thank you for your wonderful website. We love it and this is the first time I’ve disagreed. We own all your books Nicole.
