What is Gastritis?
The most simple way to understand gastritis is as the “inflammation of the stomach lining”. The inner lining of your stomach is coated by an essential protective mucous layer and when this layer is damaged various degrees of inflammation of the stomach can occur.
This can be caused by a wide variety of factors including lifestyle, diet, stress, bacteria, autoimmunity, and even environmental factors. The main bacteria that can breach and damage the stomach lining is called Helicobactor pylori. There are generally 2 categories of gastritis:
Acute : This shows up as sudden inflammation, it can be triggered by alcohol, certain drugs such as NSAIDs which cause irritation , other medication , bacteria or viruses, and stress.
Chronic : This is a long term persistent gastritis issue that can be due to bacterial infection, autoimmune gastritis, or exposure to long term environmental toxicity.
Gastritis doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s part of a bigger picture of gut health. If you’ve ever dealt with acid reflux, GERD, IBS, leaky gut, ulcers, or inflammatory bowel disease, the same underlying imbalances that inflame your stomach lining could be affecting the rest of your digestive tract.
That’s why I keep The Holistic Guide to Wellness on my shelf. Inside, Dr. Nicole Apelian lays out 45 step-by-step herbal protocols, including complete, day-by-day recovery plans for gastritis and other digestive disorders, so you know exactly what to eat, what to avoid, which remedies to prepare, and when to take them. No guesswork, no scattered advice, just a full blueprint for healing.
Every protocol combines food plans, herbal remedies, stress relief techniques, and lifestyle adjustments that tackle the root cause instead of masking symptoms. You’ll also get anti-inflammatory meal plans and a guide to building your own at-home herbal apothecary.
This isn’t just a book. It’s a resource you’ll turn to again and again, for yourself and your family. Whether you’re dealing with a current flare-up or want to prevent future ones, having these protocols within reach is one of the smartest health investments you can make.

Herbs for Soothing Gastritis
Due to the nature of the condition and the plants required to treat it ( those with soothing mucilage properties) the extraction preparation should be limited to a long steeped water extraction in order to get the true therapeutic effects and help heal this condition. These are the herbal allies used to create a Gastritis Soothing Elixir in the form of real Marshmallows:
- Reishi: Ganoderma lucidum, features properties which inhibit bacterial growth (including one of the most troublesome for those with gastritis, Helicobacter pylori.) Reishi mushroom also promotes the healing of gastric ulcers .
H. pylori is a major culprit in gastritis. And reishi is one of the few natural allies that can fight it while helping ulcers heal. A tincture delivers its full-strength compounds fast, without weeks of prep. I get mine ready-made so I can start in minutes, not months.

- Marshmallow Root : Althea officinalis has strong demulcent properties which make it the perfect cooling and moistening agent that can soothe the inflammation and nourish the mucosal lining of your stomach. It has an affinity for the digestive system and is deeply hydrating as it contains natural constituents known as mucilaginous polysaccharides.
Marshmallow root and reishi are just two of nature’s healers — but they’re far from the only ones. Across fields, forests, and even your own backyard, there are plants with the power to soothe inflammation, fight infection, and repair the body in ways most people have forgotten.
The problem? If you don’t know how to identify them, when to harvest them, and which parts to use, their medicine is lost to you.
That’s why I keep The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies II close. It’s the sequel to the original bestseller, going beyond the 800 plants already covered in the first book to bring you 139 entirely new medicinal and edible plants. Each with clear, in-field photos, extreme close-ups for accurate ID, harvesting tips, toxic-part warnings, and step-by-step recipes for turning them into remedies.
Whether you want to make a lung-cleansing blend, a parasite-purging candy, a wound-healing salve, or a digestive tonic, you’ll have precise instructions right at your fingertips. No guesswork, no wasted herbs.
If you believe in the power of plants, this is the knowledge that turns belief into action. Once you have it, you’ll never look at a walk outside the same way again.
