DIY Anti-Cellulite Body Cream

Cellulite is fat deposits under the skin of the thighs, abdomen, buttocks that cause the skin to have a dimpled appearance. This recipe has three citrus fruits as active ingredients because they are fresh, vital, and uplifting.

About the Ingredients

  • Grapefruit essential oil is not as photosensitive as other citrus oils and is a good oil for all body size-related issues. It can help with obesity, overeating, eating disorders, and appetite suppressant to aid when slimming and toning the body. And for this recipe, I am using it because it helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. The other added benefit of using citrus oils is they are all uplifting and help with mental stress.
  • Rosemary is such a versatile oil with many common primary uses, most famous for hair loss. In this recipe, it is used as an active ingredient to combat cellulite.
  • Orange essential is uplifting and helpful for those going through menopause. If you feel fearful, anxious, nervous, suffering from insomnia, it is beneficial. Orange essential oil is an active ingredient in this recipe for cellulite. Cellulite is often said to look like orange peel.
  • Lemon essential oil is a fantastic oil to have in your natural first aid kit. Like lavender and peppermint oil, Lemon is versatile and has a long list of primary uses. Uplifting, good for sluggish digestion, depression, concentration. An active ingredient in this recipe for cellulite works well in combination with other citrus oils and rosemary.
  • Beeswax is a humectant which means it adds moisture to whatever substance it is added to. Beeswax hydrates and protects the skin, and has exfoliating properties.
  • Cocoa Butter is fat from cocoa beans. I have used cocoa butter and enjoyed its benefits for years. It is high in fatty acid. Hydrates and nourishes the skin. It can improve elasticity and protects the skin from harmful UV sun rays. The fat in cocoa butter forms a protective barrier over the skin to hold in moisture.
  • Olive oil: Widely available and used in a variety of dishes.  Mainly used in Mediterranean cooking. Olive oil is perfect for the skin, deeply nourishing, especially if you have dry skin. It is widely used in Europe and the middle east as medicine. Suitable for the joints, muscles, and hair treatments.
  • Glycerin is a natural component of healthy skin. It’s also known as glycerine and glycerol. Glycerin is a humectant and it works by drawing moisture from the deeper levels of the skin and from the air around us to the skin’s surface and locking it in. It’s an odorless and colorless compound that’s derived from a variety of plants.

I added one teaspoon of Glycerin to the oils. I made two batches of this recipe I don’t think it matters whether you add the glycerin before the essential or after I did both. The glycerin adds to the creamy texture. I really like it.Citrus Blast Anti-Cellulite Body Cream - Step 8

Store in a dark glass jar for up to two months in the fridge.

The cream will harden in the fridge, unfortunately. I take it out before using it, which makes the application easier.

The prevention

The prevention of and the removal of cellulite requires a lot of work on our part. Dry skin brushing has been part of my morning routine for more than 15 years. I love it because of the way it makes me feel.

Dry-Skin Brushing helps the lymphatic system, a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. Brushing over the lymph nodes will increase our body’s ability to get rid of what it does not need. Dry skin brushing exfoliates and eliminates dead skin cells. There are overall health benefits from dry skin brushing and can aid in the reduction of cellulite.Citrus Blast Anti-Cellulite Body Cream - Dry Skin Brushing Technique

There are several recommendations as to how and when one should dry skin-brush. Use a dry skin-brush first thing in the morning upon rising and before you take a bath, shower, or food. Use the brush in any direction all over the body except the face, which requires a softer brush.

Another technique is to brush the skin using circular movements clockwise and anti-clockwise. Work on the left side of the body and then the right. Start at the back of the neck, the chest, armpits, the ribcage, the stomach, arms, back, and front of hands in between the fingers, wrists, buttocks, legs, and soles of the feet if you can stand it. Your skin will feel softer, you will feel more energized, and you will experience another level of what it means to feel clean. My day is not the same if I do not start my day by dry skin-brushing. I honestly feel the difference.

Once in a while, you might use rock salt and a few drops of essential oils used in this recipe combined with a base oil and make an exfoliating scrub.

How about Healing from within?

Creams, brushing, and exfoliating scrubs address our problems from the outside.  I was reminded while creating this recipe about the healing power of grapefruit. How helpful grapefruit is in many matters to do with body size.

For this recipe, use however many you need for your required taste and quantity that you want to make.

Either squeeze or juice a grapefruit, orange lemon, and lime, and depending on the climate, you could make a warm or cold drink by adding sparkling water or warm water and a few sprigs of rosemary. Juicing citrus fruit can be quite a bother, what with having to clean the machine. In my experience, citrus fruit is creamier in texture compared to when squeezed with a squeezer, where the quality is more like water. Make a combination, drink, and enjoy.

As we age, we lose the collagen, which helps us maintain good skin and hair. There are so many supplements on the market. Do your research and see what might be helpful for you at this stage of your life.

Thank you Ruth! I have all that except the rosemary essential oil but I do have fresh in the garden. Can I warm or simmer it in the olive oil and still have the benefits? If so, how long would you recommend?

Hi Trish,

The idea is that you do not overheat the oil so don’t let it boil.

There are two ways to do it using the double boiler method so place your rosemary and oil in a bowl or pan and then place that in boiling water making sure not to get water into the oil mixture.

The other way I have seen someone do this is actually simmering very gently the olive oil and the rosemary in a pan. This person is a chef and he had a special thermometer to measure heat. I think the secret is as soon as you see bubbles take it off the heat let it rest a bit and then put it back on the heat in total for 5 minutes. I think especially with Rosemary you can smell it when it’s ready.

I made rosemary oil by infusing olive oil with fresh rosemary. I placed a large sprig of Rosemary in a bottle and filled the bottle with olive oil. Very special to make your own Rosemary oil and it does not matter how much you make it can be used on your hair as well as skin.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, Ruth! I think using the yogurt setting on my IP will work nicely. 🙂

Awesome information thank you

What can be used in place of Glycerin? I have found that I am sensitive to it, and should be avoided. Or can it be eliminated from the recipe all-together?

If I may, most glycerin on the market is a petroleum product. 😛 You can get 100% vegatable glycerin that would probably not bother you. The one I use is from Now Solutions.
Hope that helps.

Thank you. Yes, It’s the Petroleum product that I can not tolerate. Causes a rash, sort of defeats the purpose. really. So thanks. I will try to the vegetable based version.

Will Shea butter be an equal substitute for cocoa butter? I’d prefer not to buy cocoa butter for 5 grams since I just bought Shea butter. Thank you.

Hi Joanne,

Thank you for your comment.
Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter can be Used Interchangeably.
Both Cocoa butter and shea butter have amazing skincare and soothing properties.
However shea butter is more soft and pliable, it’s easy to break off a pea-size with your fingers, it is easy to soften with a fork and whip with an electric mixer to make body butter. Shea Butter will melt on skin contact.

God bless!

Hello. I am going to make this but I want to know do you sell the oils on your website? I would rather buy it from you since I purchased your book

Hi Lashanda,

Thank you so much for your interest in our work.
I am sorry about this. We don’t sell the oils, but we can recommend

Hi & thank you for this article. I love that you touched on dry brushing, which I recently started (I don’t notice a difference energy wise though).

As a vegan, I do my best to use products that do not come from animals. Could I substitute candelilla wax? One article (http://www.vildamagazine.com/2016/05/vegan-beeswax-alternatives/) suggests using half as much when replacing beeswax.

Thank you in advance.

Hello! I haven’t used this recipe for success yet….but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the healing information.
