Amish Spices That May Save Your Life

The Amish are known for their minimalistic ways, and as everyone knows, a simple life comes with the ability to be self-reliant. One way that the Amish practice sustainable living is through the use of herbs and spices. Not only do these ingredients provide them with flavorful food, but they also boost energy, fight infection, and even save lives.

In this post, we’ll discuss four Amish Spices That May Save Your Life. We’ll learn the benefits of these common household ingredients and even discover how to make a remedy that can kick the most stubborn cold to the curb. You’ll breathe easier and learn valuable skills that pay off in the long run. By the end of the post, you’ll understand the allure of old-fashioned ways and be empowered to incorporate them into your present.

What Amish Spices Could Save Your Life?

Amish herbalism isn’t complex. In fact, many Amish live in remote areas where it’s challenging to get exotic spices. They rely on what they can find at their local stores, grow in their backyards, or source from neighbors. The Amish’s resourcefulness proves that anyone can be an herbalist! Without further ado, here are a few Amish spices that will improve your health and possibly save your life.

Ginger

Ginger is a warm spice often used in baked goods and teas. It comes ground or whole and is easily found in most grocery stores. Ginger is commonly associated with improving digestion, but it’s good for so much more. For example, ginger contains gingerol, an antioxidant that reduces the impact of free radicals. Ginger can lower inflammation, eliminating aches and pains, and even lowering BMI. As obesity is one of the top silent killers, it’s safe to say ginger may save your life. Add ginger to your curries, stir-fries, or turmeric milk.

Although ginger offers many benefits, its taste isn’t for everyone—and that’s perfectly okay. Fortunately, you can still enjoy similar benefits from other remedies. For example, the gut-healing properties found in ginger are even more effectively extracted in this Balanced Gut Tincture. You can get rid of your parasites and regenerate your gut without consuming lab-made pills that do more harm than good.

Mustard

One of the worst symptoms of pneumonia is chest congestion, and if left untreated, this symptom can lead to sepsis. The Amish use mustard powder or ground mustard seed to make a mustard plaster, which increases the circulation above the lungs, helping move things along. This is an excellent remedy, but you should always use caution as this treatment can cause burns if left on too long. You can add ground mustard to your dinners, salad dressings, or marinades.

Garlic

This bulb is easily grown in most home gardens and is a common ingredient in sauces, casseroles, and meat rubs. It’s easy to store, making it a popular choice in homeopathy. Like ginger, garlic comes in powdered form, but many prefer consuming it fresh. It’s also a big topic in folklore; many believe it scares away vampires. Garlic also has anticlotting properties, which can reduce your risk of developing blood clots that lead to heart attacks.

Horseradish

This zesty spice is in the same family as mustard, containing sinigrin, which is a powerhouse compound. Horseradish is antifungal, antibacterial, and even anti-cancer. It’s no secret that modern society is full of carcinogens, and sinigrin is a practical way to fight back.

Don’t Let a Simple Cold Turn Into Something Life-Threatening

Picture this: You wake up one morning and feel run down. Your nose is stuffy, you feel achy, and you have a “tickling” cough. As the day goes on, you push through and continue feeling worse. Soon, your untreated cold turns into shortness of breath, which leads to a chest infection. Your body struggles to fight the infection and becomes overwhelmed with sepsis.

Does that sound impossible? Think again. This is the reality that many face, especially when they refuse to take care of themselves. Rest is best, but as any busy parent or employee can attest, it is not always an option.

Thankfully, there are home remedies that use simple spices to potentially save your life, such as our Garlic Horseradish Salve. This recipe comes together easily and can quickly improve your symptoms and prevent the worst from happening.

But if you don’t want to spend time acquiring ingredients and making the remedy yourself, you can always rely on the most trusted herbalist around, and that’s Nicole Apelian. Whenever I can’t make remedies myself, I check out her Apothecary. I couldn’t choose a better herbalist!

This salve utilizes heroic garlic compounds that are proven to fight infection. We also included horseradish powder, a more concentrated form of horseradish, which is nature’s antibiotic. The base of this salve is coconut oil, which is antiviral, antibacterial, and antiseptic. As you can imagine, this combination is exceptionally fragrant, so we’ve included peppermint essential oil to cut the scent and provide a menthol effect to clear the lungs.
