Nature’s Zoloft
Zoloft (generic Sertraline) is a prescription drug that is used for treating depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and other mental issues.
Sertraline is a type of drug known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) which helps restore serotonin in the brain. It helps control the mood, sleep and wake cycle, feelings of pain, and overall well-being.
Zoloft is a widely prescribed antidepressant because it has fewer interactions compared to other SSRIs. It also has a low tendency to cause weight gain although it might cause withdrawal symptoms, sleeplessness, and upset stomach as side effects.
Just as with many other pills, they do more harm than good. So why not just avoid the trouble and money wasting?
The good news is that Zoloft is also widely available in nature. Nature’s Zoloft is in the form of potent herbs and spices with similar results but fewer side effects.
Uses of Zoloft
Zoloft is usually taken for about two to three months, depending on the patient’s condition. It means that once the psychiatrist prescribes it, you need to take it even if you are feeling well.
It is used as a treatment for:
- Major depressive disorder (MDD)
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Panic disorder (PD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
- Social anxiety disorder (SAD)
Zoloft also enhances the mood to enable patients to feel more stable and relaxed. It may decrease anxiety, fear, intrusive and other negative thoughts.
However, if the doctor prescribes you Zoloft, you cannot change its dose or suddenly stop the medication without consultation. Altering or stopping its intake can cause withdrawal symptoms like headache, nausea, and sleeping problems.
They made it in such a way that you’d fill their pockets again and again. You’re doing yourself a favor by growing the remedies yourself!

Nature’s Zoloft
You cannot take Zoloft without a prescription, more so buy it from pharmacies. If you are battling with mental problems and PMDD episodes, you can try some of these herbs that can affect the brain and central nervous system.
St. John’s Wort
St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) was historically used for different health conditions, including insomnia and depression. Several studies conducted on St. John’s wort report that the herb acts as a reuptake inhibitor of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. It can elevate your neurotransmitters to effectively treat depression.
This one is a very potent herb. Hence, it may interact with some medications. For mild depression and phobia, you can take one tablespoon of a decoction made from the fresh flowers of St. John’s Wort, three times a week.
Valerian
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a potent nervine and central nervous system depressant that can help regulate brain activity. It is often recommended as a food supplement for anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, neurological disorders, and PMS.
This herb is also very powerful and worthy to be called Nature’s Zoloft. You should use valerian with caution. If you’re dealing with panic attacks or other brain-related conditions, try taking a decoction of dried valerian root once a day.
Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) acts as a natural sertraline that can relieve stress and brain disorders. It is a relaxing herb that soothes the nervous system and may cure insomnia and other sleep problems. Unlike lab-made Zoloft, lemon balm has a stomachic property that is unlikely to cause digestive problems when taken.
Passionflower
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is an excellent herb for easing generalized anxiety. It promotes deep relaxation by boosting the GABA levels in the brain. Passionflower is also good for muscle tension and nervous tension, and in relieving mood swings. It has fewer side effects than sedatives.
Lavender
Lavender is a beloved remedy for insomnia, thanks to its soothing and relaxing properties. You can brew its flower buds into tea or, for a more popular option, use lavender oil in aromatherapy to help you unwind and improve your sleep. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) can act as a Nature’s Zoloft, helping to soothe mild mental issues and alleviate premenstrual symptoms. It can also lower blood pressure effectively, offering the additional benefit of protecting cardiovascular health.
Besides it’s internal use, you’d be surprised to find out the shocking thing that happens when you soak your feet in lavender water.
Kava
Kava-kava, or simply kava (Piper methysticum), is a very strong antidepressant herb. It is banned in many countries for its purported liver toxicity and is only used upon a doctor’s advice. Kava has a potent anxiolytic property that is effective against generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) can pacify the nervous system and reduce stress and other mental illnesses. It can act like a sertraline that calms the mood, improves sleep quality, and keeps the mind at ease. Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, can be used to increase the stamina and vitality of the body.
Chamomile
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one of the safest herbal alternatives to Zoloft. It possesses a strong sedative property that is valuable in treating chronic sleep problems. It is also best for soothing anxiety and calming the nerves. Just the simple inhalation of this essential oil will soothe you in minutes!
Rhodiola
Rhodiola rosea is effective in restoring the serotonin levels in the brain. You can often consume it as a powdered root extract to promote mental clearness and maintain your emotional state. Taking Rhodiola not only relaxes the body but also conditions it to adapt to various stressors.
Saffron
An initial clinical trial suggests that saffron (Crocus sativus) may help increase the serotonin in the brain by acting as an SSRI. Although it is subjected to further studies, several other studies support the claim. Saffron can be an effective intervention for symptoms of anxiety and depression. It is now available as a food supplement that you can find in many pharmacies.
Remember, sertraline and its natural alternatives are potent substances that you should use with caution. If you’re already taking medications for depression or other mental conditions, avoid adding any herbal alternatives like a natural Zoloft to your routine. Always consult with your healthcare provider before using these drugs or supplements to ensure they are safe for you.
Excessive use of antidepressants can warrant harmful side effects like agitation, vivid dreams, and sleep disturbances. It is still best to talk to your doctor if you want to include natural remedies for your mental health.
Natural Zoloft Bitters
Combining natural antidepressants can create a potent blend of ingredients for easing psychological and physical stress.
This recipe is ideal for insomnia, mild anxiety, and stress to improve your mood and emotional stability. It includes the most effective herbs and spices like lavender, valerian, and passionflower. It also has ginger, an important spice, that not only reduces anxiety but also imparts a digestive property.
Orange peel is also included to add a mellow and citrus zest to these bitters.
High-proof alcohol like vodka, preferably 100-proof, is recommended for faster extraction. However, if it is not available, you can have the regular 80-proof but add an extra week for infusion. You may also substitute a non-alcoholic spirit or glycerin if you want alcohol-free bitters.
