What to Eat According to Your Blood Type
Should your blood type tell you what to eat?
The idea behind the blood type food chart comes from Paul D’Adamo, a naturopathic doctor.
Each blood group has a unique chemistry, and each food contains a type of protein called lectins. When these two interact, lectins can stick to your red blood cells and cause problems if they clash with a specific blood type.
When lectins bind to the antigen of your blood type, your red blood cells almost clump together.
When that happens, it can cause tiredness, headaches, skin issues, and problems with your gut, and it may also trigger an autoimmune response in your body.
Most of the time, these lectins aren’t harmful. Normally, your immune system protects you from lectins and removes about 95% of them. But the remaining 5% do end up in your bloodstream. And eating according to your blood type is what can help you manage those 5%. This way you can improve your digestion, your energy levels, and some chronic conditions.
So let’s get started:
Type O
Also called the original omnivore, people with type O blood are considered the original hunter-gatherers. Their ancestors consumed a diet rich in animal proteins and not so many grains and dairy products.
That’s why it’s best if you have this blood type to have a diet that consists of high-protein foods, similar to that of your ancestors. In general, people who are type O tend to have stomach issues, and it’s best to keep a well-balanced gut. If you are type O or you struggle with gut problems, this is a powerful remedy you can try.
Foods to Eat | What to Avoid |
---|---|
lean meats – lamb, beef, poultry | dairy products, especially milk and cheese |
fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon and mackerel) | grains: wheat and barley |
vegetables like kale, spinach, and broccoli | legumes: especially peanuts and lentils |
fruits like berries, plums, or figs | highly processed foods and sugar |
Type A
The agrarian, people who are type A are believed to have descended from agrarian ancestors who mostly cultivated grains. That’s why it’s recommended to have a diet rich in plant-based foods and to avoid animal products as much as possible.
If you’re type A, you should pay close attention to your immune system. That’s the most vulnerable thing. Also, there’s a higher risk of developing thyroid problems, especially hypothyroidism. I happen to be type A, and I have an autoimmune condition. While searching for the natural alternative to the fistful of pills the doctors were prescribing me, I discovered this mushroom blend. It’s a dual extraction tincture made of lion’s mane, reishi, and turkey tail that I take every day, and not only does it help me modulate and regulate my immune system but I don’t have any side effects. These three mushrooms are called “adaptogens” and they can balance a variety of issues in the body, ranging from autoimmune conditions to protecting the body from the effects of stress.
Foods to Eat | What to Avoid |
---|---|
fresh fruits and veggies | red meat and poultry |
whole grains, especially quinoa, brown rice, and oats | dairy products, except fermented things (like yogurt) |
plant-based proteins like tofu and tempeh | refined sugar |
nuts and seeds, including almonds, flaxseed, and walnuts |
Type B
This one is sometimes called the balanced omnivore. People with type B blood evolved in regions where there was a balance between agriculture and raising animals. That’s why the best thing to do if you have type B is to find the perfect balance between animal and plant foods.
Some of the most common health issues for this blood type are all sorts of pulmonary problems. You’d be amazed how fast a common cold can turn into dangerous pneumonia. And they’re also prone to developing COPD.
To keep a cold from developing into something worse, here is a natural fever breaker. You only need three ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons of flour (I suggest you use organic and unbleached)
- 2 tablespoons of dried mustard powder
- 2 tablespoons of water
You’ll also need a bowl and a Ziplock bag.
Instructions:
- Add the flour and mustard powder to the bowl.
- Then slowly add the water and stir until you get a paste. It should have the consistency of pancake batter. You may need to add some more water.
- Transfer the paste into a Ziplock bag.
Directions for Use:
Lie down, and place the Ziplock bag on your chest or back. Make sure the paste is not directly applied to your skin. Cover yourself with blankets.
After a few minutes, you should start sweating profusely. If it becomes too hot, switch sides to place the bag on your chest or back.
Try not to leave it on for more than 10 minutes.
This is a recipe I recently tested, and it worked wonders. I discovered it in The Lost Remedies Academy. This recipe proves you don’t need much to make powerful natural remedies. Plus, everything you’ll find in this academy is presented in video form, so it’s easy to follow along.
Foods to Eat | What to Avoid |
---|---|
lean meats like venison or rabbit | corn, lentils, and peanuts |
different types of fish: cod, halibut, and trout | wheat products, especially bread and pasta |
dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, and goat milk | sugar |
eggs | |
fruits and vegetables to help keep balance |
Type AB
Also known as the enigma, they are the rarest and newest in terms of human evolution. And just like the name suggests, the best approach is a combination of the foods recommended for types A and type B.
Just as with food, this blood type has a combination of health issues you can get with types A and B. However, there is a higher chance of developing brain and memory issues. There’s a recent study that shows type AB people have an 82% higher chance of experiencing memory loss. So if you want to improve your memory, mood, and cognitive performance overall, you should try this powerful brain bundle.
You can also try an easy herbal infusion you can make with only two ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.
You’ll need one teaspoon of chopped dried mint, one teaspoon of chopped dried rosemary, and one cup of water. Rosemary is wonderful for cognitive health and boosting brain memory, and the addition of mint is uplifting and promotes focus and energy as well.
Boil the water, add the herbs, and let it steep for at least 20 minutes.
Strain it and drink one cup a day.
You can make it fresh each day or make a big batch and store it in the fridge in mason jars for up to seven days.
It’s obvious food influences your overall health. Now that you know all these things about the relationship between your blood type and what you eat, you can make some small changes in your diet that can totally influence your health. And if you want to get more of those powerful natural remedies to better your health even more, visit the apothecary right now for all the good stuff.
Wait. Put it in a SEALED bag and then on your chest?
I’m with you except for your promotion of evolution. God created me with type O and I can’t digest protein very well. I also react to wheat, even wheat seeds that are found in gluten-free supplements.
Evolution is part of this divine universe! If we don’t evolve the universe can’t expand so we are always evolving and expanding. That’s how our benevolent creator set it up!
Sure feel sorry for you, Martha, but you’re free to believe as you choose, as everyone else is free to believe as they choose.
Thankyou for that simple response to those misguided souls . I will use that when I next come up against sad blinkered zealous bigotary promoted by the god fearers .
To ‘fear’ God means to revere Him for being the creator and sustainer of all that was created by Him which is positively everything. But don’t worry, God has made a contingency for unbelievers. He loves you as much as He does believers. He has given you the chance to enlighten yourself by delving into His word, Bible, for the real truth about this life but more importantly about the next life, where we will live with Him in Heaven. I’m sorry that you think you came from green slime because you deserve to know the truth. Jesus is the Truth. After all, He died to give everyone the hope of Salvation and Grace to lead us all to the Cross for forgiveness. He is waiting for you but it has to be your choice.
I think we ought to be respecting nature and the planet rather than believing one deity created us all. People are free to believe what they wish it is nobody else’s business ! I am a believer that we live according to the seasons and everything we decide to do has a cause and effect action. And while we are on the subject people of all faiths everywhere have ethics to live by.
There may also be many gods/goddesses and spiritual beings. I believe trees and plants can speak to each other and whatever we do sends energy, whether good or bad.
Total BS on evolution. If you think humans are turning into something on a higher plane, you are living in a sealed cave and your oxygen level is almost depleted.
William. I feel very sorry for you …you have a very ‘closed’ mind…We all have our beliefs…who is to say what is wrong and what is right?
Not you…nor me!
You will never grow in any way while you have that closed mind……listen to other people and think about what they say. When replying to anyone …be polite!
Starting by telling them that what they say is BS will not win friends or influence people.
Bible verse please! There is absolutely no, I repeat, No! evidence of anything ever evolving!
Oh I think there is…. You only have to look at the stages of human development from apes.
Fossil record?
Dear Linda, you are deceived by Satan. You should know that you are special because you were created in God’s own image. You didn’t evolve from an ape or a monkey – you were created to be much higher than animals who don’t have an eternal soul. Our mighty LORD created apes too but they are not and never have been like mankind!
God created man from the dust of the ground and then He breathed His own Spirit into man giving us intellect, free will and an eternal soul that will never die.
Please humble yourself to ask our gracious LORD to show you if this is true – if you seek God with all your heart, truly desiring to know the truth; it will be shown to you.
Apes die and return to the ground. You are NOT an ape! The human body will die but our spirit and souls live forever because we were created in the image of God by God Himself.
We have free will and intellect to seek out God while we are still alive – to choose where our Spirit will reside in eternity. We have been given free will to either believe in and choose the one true God who created all things OR to reject Him. Don’t be deceived by the enemy’s lies. Those who are deceived by lies and reject their Creator, the one true God., will not see the wonderful things God has planned eternally for those who love Him. God loves you and wants no one to perish. Linda Lemon, I pray today that you would humble yourself and ask our LORD to open the eyes of your heart and show you who and what you really are in His eyes!
❤️🙏🙏🙏❤️
We didnt develop from Apes.LOL
God created us.
Beth , besides the particular blood type advice I think your symptoms could be helped by searching more about the Lectins mentioned in the article .
(The Plant Paradox)
There are specific foods to avoid to reduce these Nasties .
By any chance do you eat tomatoes, cucumbers , squash, peanuts , normal potatoes or out of season fruit plus other high lectin foods .
Try eliminating all of these and see what happens .
I hope I have answered your prayers .
You can eat tomatoes, but without the skins.
I am o+ and I am carnivore for 2years never felt beter
Same here I cant stand any animal products or, wheat or any gluten based cirn, almonds sesame nuts, I’ve very sensitive stomach and I’m O-ve.
Thank you for this refresher course on the blood types. What about O Negative? Anything I should be doing in addition to being type O?
Dr.D’Adamohas a full line of books and info on his website.
I also have this question…
Hi Marilyn,

Is A negative going to be the same as A?
Hi Barb,

The article about and books promoting the propaganda of the type of foods to be eaten by blood type have given me a good chuckle after my first experience with trying it out. Nothing is ever said about what happens when one has a parent with one blood type and the other parent with a different blood type. Somehow genetics are totally left out of this narrow minded fantasy. Very thankful to have the common sense to have identified the diet my body does the best with and it is FAR from the recommendations of the blood type diet. Were I to eat per my blood type I would have constant digestive, cognitive and neurological problems, including irregular heartbeats, etc., and there’s no way I’m going to follow someone’s nightmare idea when it’s most certainly bad for me. When the stupidity of blood type diets came to my attention some 40 years or so ago, I was stupid enough to think it was a good idea. Within two weeks I was a horrific mess and hourly getting worse with irregular heartbeats drastically limiting my ability to do very much. Sure didn’t take me long to go back to the diet I was accustomed to and magically things straightened out. Every body is an individual organism and there are no guaranteed answers for everyone. People need to use common sense including the idiots who have nightmares and publish them trying to make their mint. Sad truth is the general public is stupid they fall for anything written down, making idiotic assumptions it is truth and a magic answer, completely omitting common sense. I’d have died in my very early 20’s if I’d been stupid enough to believe this nightmare enough to continue with it. For some this idea may work, but for many it doesn’t at all.
Wow, your comments were useful, but did you have to be so self-righteous and uppity about it? By your own admission, you followed this diet yourself, so you could at least be less judgmental. Not because you are now enlightened is it OK for you to now get on your high horse. Calling people stupid and fools is uncalled for.
Some interesting personal observations there and good you discovered what is best for you .
Personally it was spot on for me and my current diet .
I was not sure about the little dig about Mint .
I think any person who does not feel the aroma of fresh crushed mint leaves when inhaled is up lifting and joyous is missing out on something .
The Mint family has a variety of plants such as
Bee Balm (mellissa officianalis) I believe has been known for many centuries to be a powerful brain tonic (drug ).
Take the origins of these sayings for instance regards over users of Bee Balm (from the 1500’s)
‘SHE HAS A BEE IN HER BONNET’
which then transfered to ‘The mad hatter’
There are others I just cant recall , I need some tea.
Ah I re-read your mint comment about Mint and perhaps people who are having nightmares could have over indulged .
Mint really is a powerful Brain Drug and needs to taken in moderation.
It is sold commercially with many sweetened candy for instance .
Stevia is also a mint perhaps this now common natural sweetener is messing with some suseptable peoples minds.
Just some morning thoughts here thrown out to the crowd , stay well people.
…such an aggressive reply without a good reason…yes, people need to have a common sense, and same time be a courageous enough to play with a new and unknown, otherwise there wouldn’t be a progress ….I can’t imagine, that someone could be in a health crisis from using Blood group diet (BGD)…
when I red a first time about BGD,I thought such a nonsense…. but I red it a second time, and it make a really sense…. I implemented BGD A to my life, and it improves my health dramatically….these days I am not so strict, yet I follow most of recommendations automatically … as a RN, I also did my personal study in a hospital, observing who has which diagnoses and I did see, how different peoples health is, according BG types. BGD definitely is my “go to “is I need improvement in my health .
Well, since your are being critical of others, I will point out that you have missed a key factor of which you should have learned by now – there are exceptions to almost everything in life. That should not always have to be stated. Nothing applies to everyone, but many apply to most. People should understand that they need to be cautious with their health and make changes gradually for their bodies to adjust. Also, people should be more in tune with their bodies as they tell us what they need. I was always lectured and sometimes disciplined for my limited diet choices and small amounts since my first memories. At my current age, I am healthier than most my age and still have not be advised to take any medications daily because I have no health issues. As it turns out, my diet my whole life has been as stated in this article. My body was telling me what it needed my whole life with some additions along the way. This information obviously applies to my body, but I did not make a sudden change confusing my body.
The blood type you are born with is uniquely your own. What you are will depend on which alleles pair up from the genetic information of both parents. Each gene has two sets of alleles
What if your blood type is RH O- (o negative)?
Hi JoAnn,
Thank you for your interest in this article!
The Rh factor does not influence the diet, so you can follow the recommendations presented for Type O.
Many blessings and good health!
I am O-, both my parents and siblings are 0-. I do have a lot of digestive issues except when I eat meat. I have recently been test to have an intolerance to any milk or cheese from any mammal. So for me this eating according to your blood type is right on the money. I just wish I read this sooner.
Hi Melanie,
Thank you for your comment!

I have to disagree somewhat with regard to type
A. I have allergies to tofu, walnuts, melons, wheat etc. I find that I feel continually hungry until I eat meat.
Hi Denise,
Thank you for sharing that with us!
Certainly, every person’s organism is different, and these are only some general recommendations. If you are allergic to those foods, do not include them in your diet by any means.
Many blessings and good health
Hi, Thank you for all your knowledge you’ve given me a lot of health benefits. I was just wondering does A positive blood type follow A or is there another diet for Apositive?
Hi Julianne,
Thank you for your interest in this article!

I make tinctures but am not familiar with a double tincture and I have never tinctured mushrooms. Can you briefly explain the process.
Hi Mary,
Thank you for your question.
You may use this article’s recipe instructions as a general guideline:
https://thelostherbs.com/homemade-lions-mane-tincture-for-brain-fog/
You may also find detailed information on how to make a double extraction in The Lost Book of Herbal Remedies.
Many blessings and good health!
I have been following the B diet for 6 months. Having being diagnosed with GERD and low blood iron from a sliding hiatus hernia, its enabled a great turnaround. Some chronic symptoms ended within days. I had been vegetarian for 45 years. It turned out to be the worst diet due to the amount of high legumes – most of which are on the AVOID list for Bs. Ive now intrduced fish. The Blood Type Diet has been miraculous!
Absolute bullshit. I (type A) cannot eat soy or grains because I have Coeliac disease. Meat is the only safe food for me. What a useless article.
It has been mentioned there are exceptions. Not everybody who is blood type A has Coeliac disease so you are the exception. And a little bit of common sense and reflection would have been much more intelligent than your abusive knee-jerk reaction….
My husband and I have been following the blood type diet for almost 30 years. He is O type and I am AB – quite a challenge when living in the same household, but we have worked it out to suite both of our needs. Our one son is B and the other AB.
We follow the recommendations loosely as it fits into our lifestyle (life is short!) and more strictly when we have a health issue to deal with.
O blood type is best with red meat according to Dr. D’Adamo. It has totally proven out with my husband. Not only does he crave red meat, but he suffers without it. Pasta and wheat bog him down.
We ate a strict vegetarian diet for over 10 years, until both of us adopted our O and AB diets. The benefits were most obvious with my husband, with increased energy and general good health. I had no problem with eating mostly turkey and lamb for meat, but I don’t crave meat in general, which fits my AB profile.
There are people who are exceptions to this this diet being beneficial of them, but over the years, I have found that most people gravitate to the foods that are beneficial to their blood type, even when they are not familiar with it. That’s the best part of this diet.
Does this apply to “O negative” blood types?
Thank you, I enjoy reading about all your remedies. It has helped me tremendously, my mother too! We purchase your books and products. Many blessing to you!
I have O negative. Does that make a difference in the Type O diet?
Oats and whole grains are filled with round-up even if they are organic, so shouldn’t we all avoid them?
I have so enjoyed reading everyone’s comments, they really show the diversity of opinions and beliefs as there are worldly opinions. I always listen to my body and try to react appropriately to what I am feeling. I am glad I found these books that have given me help to keep my body, mind and spirit healthy. I do agree with the blood types information. From the age of 7 (I am now 71) I developed migraines, it was only when I linked specific foods to a migraine that I realised Dairy was the cause. I am blood type O, spot on for me. I cut out all dairy, my migraines stopped, my hearing, eye sight, weight improved enormously. I currently have allergic reactions I am having difficulty in resolving. 50% Hair loss from being prescribed amatriptoline for Trigeminal Neuralgia 4 years ago and now eczema.and cradle cap conditions causing itchy and sire scalp. Can you suggest a natural solution to help me. I am using coal tar shampoo which has coconut oil, salicylic acid, distilled coal tar. The pharmacy told me to use vasiline. I put myself on a auto immune protocol diet. All help but not cure.
