Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s

Black pepper is usually something added as a spice to your food, however, this spice has tremendous effects on your brain function. It is a superfood that works well to help combat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Did you know that more than six million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease? That means that 1 in every 9 people over the age of 65 suffers from this disorder. Today, I’ll share with you how to make a brain-boosting black pepper extract.

What is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is part of the Dementia family. It affects your memory, how you think, and your behavior. As time goes by, the disease can affect your daily life, and performing basic tasks becomes a struggle. Once diagnosed, you can live as long as 20 years after, but this does depend on your overall health and other risk factors.

Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s - symptoms

Some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s are as follows:

  • Memory loss
  • Disorientation
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Problems walking
  • Issues with speech

Keep in mind that Alzheimer’s is not conclusive to the aging process. Younger people under the age of 65 can be affected by this disease, which is known as younger-onset Alzheimer’s. These are the early signs you might have Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s, unfortunately, does not have a cure at the moment. However, a few natural remedies can help with some of the symptoms.

The Benefits of Black Pepper

Black pepper has a bio-active component in it called Piperine, which has been proven to improve brain function in animals. One study found that piperine improved memory and allowed rodents to function better.

In a separate study, black pepper helped to reduce protein clusters in the brain. These protein clusters are linked to Alzheimer’s, and the brain can function better by getting rid of these proteins.

The Benefits of Turmeric

It has anti-inflammatory properties, which help to reduce swelling in the body. Curcumin is not created in your system, meaning you can only consume it through the foods and supplements you take.

Curcumin reduces inflammation in your brain, and research has shown that inflammation in the brain has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease. By reducing the swelling in your brain, you could help reduce the symptoms of the disease.

Other useful herbs for brain health are Cordyceps, Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Lemon Balm, whose health benefits include boosting cognitive function, limiting neuronal cell death, enhancing memory and focus, calming anxiety and stress, combating fatigue, and boosting energy. This Brain Bundle includes potent tinctures of all of them.

Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s

I have been making tinctures for my clients for years. I have done a lot of research over the years, and even though there is no exact quantity you should use, I have found that a ratio of 1:10 has given my clients the best results- one part black pepper to 10 parts turmeric. You can use turmeric powder if you can’t find fresh turmeric root; however, fresh is always the better option.

You will need:
  •  ¼ lb. / 453g of fresh turmeric root
  • 1 tbsp whole black peppercorns
  • 1 cup/ 237ml alcohol, at least 80 proof

You will also need the following tools to create your extract. A knife, blender, spoon, measuring jugs, bowl, an airtight jar to store your extract while infusing, cheesecloth, and dropper bottles to store your extract once strained.

Steps
  1. Thoroughly wash your turmeric root, chop it into pieces and measure it. You do not need to peel the root. I used turmeric from my garden, and I froze pieces as well. Some pieces had the skin on, and others did not. I enjoy the texture of the skin but find that too much skin makes the extract a bit bitter. Gently blend the turmeric until it forms a paste. If you do not have a blender, that is okay, you can finely chop the turmeric.Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s - measure turmeric
  2. Once blended, place the turmeric into a glass jar and add your peppercorns.
  3. Pour the alcohol gently into the jar and place the lid on. I like to use a bottle that is larger than the final mixture so that the enzymes in the ingredients have room to breathe.Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s - pour alcohol
  4. Gently shake the mixture every few days and allow it to steep for 6 weeks in a dark, cool location.Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s - shake
  5. Once the 6 weeks are up, use cheesecloth to strain the mixture into a bowl. Ensure you get all the liquid out by squeezing the cloth.Black Pepper Extract for Alzheimer’s - strained tincture
  6. Store the tincture in dropper bottles, label them, and keep them out of the sun and heat.

How To Use This Extract

There are a few ways in which you can use your tincture to help with Alzheimer’s. I personally tell my clients to add a few drops to their water in the morning.

If you struggle a bit with the taste, you can also add your tincture to juice to mask the bold taste of pepper and tumeric. Alternatively, you can add it directly to your food, but this is not advised as the heat will change the structure of the enzymes in the mixture. So, you can add it to your salads or cold foods.

The steps are easy to follow and remember, making this black pepper extract ideal for Alzheimer’s disease.  This is definitely an extract you want to add to your daily routine to help you or your loved ones improve cognitive performance.

can I use ACV instead of alcohol?

Hi Sue,

Yes, you can use ACV instead.

Many blessings and good health!

What is ACV, please?

ACV stands for “apple cider vinegar”.

How much alcohol? If using powdered turmeric, how much?

Hi Colleen,

You can use 1 cup of alcohol.

Many blessings and good health!

If I drink steeped turmeric root and eat black pepper every day, will it have the same effect?

Hi Mel,

Yes, that is a good alternative.

Many blessings and good health!

Do you make this to sell to you customers? If so, how much do you charge?I have your book, I do not have much faith in me making this myself.

Same

Hi Karen,

Thank you for supporting our work!
Unfortunately, we do not. These are the only products that we sell on our website: https://thelostherbs.com/store/

Many blessings and good health!

Can you use powder turmeric instead of fresh. Where I live Fresh Turmeric is not available. Thanks for so much info that helps us.

Hi, the tumeric amount cannot be right in this recipe because the g amount is equal to 1lb. It should be 1/4 of that.

I noticed that, as well! I’m wondering, since the picture shows 1lb on the scale, should it actually be one pound? I’m trying to make this right now and I’m so confused!

Hi Nicole. Thank you for your lovely book. It is a text book for me. You partly answered one of the questions but didn’t say how much turmeric powder to use to how much pepper, which makes the original recipe ingredient quantities completely different. Thank you.
Blessings- Christina.

When you say alcohol, do you mean drinking alcohol? Lol newbie here

Does putting sliced tumeric & ginger & a green tea teabag in boiling water affect the quality of the root stock?

Hi-
On the tumeric root amount in this recipe, is it 1/4 lb or 1 lb? It says 1/4 lb or 453 grams, but 453 grams equals 1 lb.
thanks
Barb
